Shropshire's biggest band have been added to the line-up for the Shrewsbury Fields Forever Festival, it was announced today.

The Sunshine Underground, the biggest band to come out of Shropshire since Carol Decker's T'Pau, have been confirmed to return to this year's event, following public requests.

The band are originally from Telford and Shrewsbury, and formed while studying at New College, Telford. They sold out venues in London and Leeds on their first headline tour before releasing two studio albums.

Their music has become popular around the world and has frequently been featured on TV programmes like BBC's Match Of The Day.

Shrewsbury Fields Forever organiser Dene Edwards said The Sunshine Underground proved a hit at the inaugural festival last year. He said: "It just wouldn't have felt right if The Sunshine Underground hadn't featured in the first festival last year.

"The response from the crowd was amazing, we can completely understand why everyone wanted them back."

The band will join platinum album-winning band The Wombats, triple Mobo Award and Mercury Prize winner Ms Dynamite and returning dance legends Utah Saints.

The festival, on September 14 to 16, will also feature oldskool breaks champions, The Ratpack and Irish comedian Andrew Maxwell who will be forming part of the new Sunday comedy section.

Mr Edwards added: "We are really excited about this year's event. Last year laid a good foundation to what we really want to do with the festival in the future, starting with this year's event."

Tickets cost from £30 to £48 and up to 10,000 people are expected. For details see www.shrewsburyfieldsforever.com
