American rock group Wheatus wowed a 150-strong audience at a special one-off concert in Telford.

The New Yorkers, famed for their 2000 single Teenage Dirtbag, performed at Wellington's new venue Arena 1, on Saturday night.

To date the band's first record has sold more than five million copies worldwide and cracked the top 40 charts for a second time in March 2011, 10 years after its first release.

Promoter Tony John said: "It was a great night and a great gig. We had around 150 people come along. I know I really enjoyed it and I'm sure everyone else enjoyed it as well.

"The highlight of the evening was always going to be Teenage Dirtbag and so it proved. Even if you don't know who Wheatus are, I think everyone knows that song. Everyone in the audience was singing along and having a good time."

Also on the line-up was electro-indie rock band The Madoc Vanguard, from Oswestry,

Mr John added: "Arena 1 is a new venue doing its best to get national and local bands on stage in Telford. We're in the old snooker hall and it really is an amazing place.

"We're hoping to keep bringing bigger bands to the county."
