Charlotte Church will open this year's Llangollen Fringe Festival, organisers have announced.

The songstress will be performing new material when she appears at this year's festival on July 12.

Her appearance is part of a musical comeback for the former child star, who released her sixth album Back to Scratch in 2010.

She also been booked on to the bill of the Blissfields festival in Hampshire, which runs between June 29 and July 1.

A spokesman for the fringe festival said: "Charlotte has what has been described as a bold and unique new sound, creating vast musical landscapes with big drums and big guitars."

She will be performing at Llangollen Town Hall in Castle Street, with doors opening at 7.30pm and tickets priced at £12 each.

Organisers have also confirmed a host of other acts for the fringe festival, including actor and documentary maker Keith Allen who will be hosting an audience on July 14 and performances from Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and National Poet of Wales Gillian Clarke on July 15.

Others lined up to appear over the course of the fringe festival, which is running between July 13 and 22 include Dr Feelgood guitarist and Game of Thrones actor Wilko Johnson and Ska legends The Beat.
