The stage is set for Shrewsbury's biggest-ever outdoor concert tonight with pop superstar Jessie J set to entertain 11,000 fans in the Quarry.

Queues were already forming early this morning to get into the showground ahead of the gates opening at 5pm.

It comes as weather forecasters predict a month's worth of rain could fall in a day in Shrewsbury ahead of the gig. But they are hopeful the worst of the wet weather will be over by the time the concert gets going.

Music from support acts A*M*E and Jay James Picton will be starting from 7pm before Jessie J 's 75-minute set from 9pm. Concertgoers have been told not to bring gazebos to the event due to the large numbers attending the show.

People over 18 attending the gig will be able to bring their own alcohol on to the site, while food is also allowed.

There will also be a number of food and drink outlets running in the park on the day.

Concertgoers have also been advised to arrange lifts to the site by organisers, with town centre car parks expected to be very busy as thousands of fans pour into the town. They have also been reminded not to be in Raven Meadows multi-storey car park which will be closing at 6pm.

Despite today's wet weather, concert promoter Keith Louch said conditions in the Quarry were fine.

"I would advise people to bring waterproofs along but don't bring big umbrellas because they blocked the view and you will be asked to take them down.

"Excited doesn't even cover how I'm feeling about the gig at the moment."

Despite the huge crowds expected Mr Louch said security at the gig would be normal.
