Ticket sales at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod rose this year despite the rain keeping people away during the day.

Officials said sell-out evening concerts by the likes of Opera star Alfie Boe helped push ticket sales up by 2,000 compared to last year. Overall, visitor numbers fell by 800.

Organisers are still working out how much money the event made, after having to make last-minute provisions for the heavy rain.

The event made a loss of more than £60,000 in 2010 and almost £23,000 in 2009.

But officials believe it is now 'back on its feet'.

Over the six days of the Eisteddfod, more than 2,000 competitors from 23 countries competed.
