Madonna made her Midlands debut with a slick and spectacular concert at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.

The 53-year-old Queen of Pop kept fans waiting until 9.45pm before taking the stage for a 90-minute gig last night.

Among a series of high-fashion costume changes, ranging from an assassin to a preacher, fans were treated to hits including Like a Prayer, Express Yourself, Vogue and a stripped-back piano version of Like a Virgin.

Her 11-year-old son Rocco, from her marriage to film director Guy Ritchie, also joined her on stage as a backing dancer for two songs.

Madonna blamed technical problems for the late start during an expletive-ridden speech to the crowd.

But she had fans on their feet for most of the night and ended by thanking the NIA for being a "great audience".
