British Sea Power steam in for Severn Valley Railway show

The Severn Valley Railway will host one of its more unusual events next month when top indie band British Sea Power call in to perform a live show at Kidderminster Station.

British Sea Power are renowned for their adventurous choice of venues and jumped at the chance to perform at the restored station complex.

The Brighton-based band, who scored a top 10 hit with their album Do You Like Rock? have booked the function room next to the King & Castle pub but intend to play on the platform under the glass canopy on September 13.

The band are using the one-off gig as a warm-up for their appearance at the Prisoner No 6 festival at Portmeirion in north Wales on September 14-16 when they will perform alongside the likes of New Order, Primal Scream and Spiritualized in the spectacular Italianate village designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis and famously used as the backdrop for the TV drama the Prisoner.

Kidderminster's SVR station will join a long list of leftfield venues to have hosted gigs by British Sea Power, who have also performed at the National History Museum in London, a ferry on the Mersey and at the Tan Hill Inn in Yorkshire, Britain's highest pub at over 1,700ft above sea level.
