Review: The Doors Alive at Oakengates Theatre
"Jiiimmmmooooo!" shouts a man from the back of the audience every now and again during The Doors Alive's show in Telford.
Clearly he's had a few, but you can forgive him for thinking he really is watching the long-dead Jim Morrison. For a tribute act The Doors Alive are spookily accurate, even using the same make of instruments that the real band used more than 40 years ago.
Close your eyes a little and you really do think that's Jim Morrison up there in front of you, belting out hits such as LA Woman, Love Her Madly and Light My Fire.
Singer Willie Scott manages to look, move and sound exactly like the real thing, even down to the way he recites the late singer's, er, 'interesting', poetry.
It's an astonishing performance, matched by the top-notch musicians surrounding him, and over the course of their two-hour set you really do find yourself forgetting that it's only a tribute.
The only pity, though, is that there wasn't a bigger audience to see them. Around 70 people made the effort to go to the theatre on Saturday, but the band carried on as if they were playing the Hollywood Bowl.
