Suggs – real name Graham McPherson – will be taking to the stage at Oakengates Theatre on April 20 for his one-man show, which has been well received at other venues around the country. The 51-year-old singer, actor, former radio DJ, television and radio personality will be using words and music to tell the story of his life.

Tickets went on sale on Monday and Madness fans were quick to start snapping them up.

A spokeswoman for the theatre said: "Sales have got off to a good start and we're very pleased with how it's been going.

"I think he's going to prove very popular and I expect to see tickets sell very well for this show, although there are still plenty of tickets available at the moment."

The Madness frontman performed his first one-man stage show last year where he shared various anecdotes from his childhood to the present day intertwined with musical numbers.

He is now taking the show on the road again in a tour which will take him around the UK during the first six months of 2013.

He will be accompanied – and heckled and interrupted – by Deano, his loyal manservant-cum-pianist.

The show, which is subtitled "I've just turned 50, the kids have left home, and my cat just died", is being described as a cross between a play, stand-up comedy and music hall, and will follow Suggs through his tale of failure and success.

Fans of his music will also be kept entertained as the chart-topping singer has promised that there will be a fair selection of songs scattered throughout the show.

Suggs: My Life Story will be performed at Oakengates Theatre on April 20 at 7pm.

Tickets cost £24.50 and are available from the theatre box office on (01952) 382382.
