Organisers hailed last night's musical marathon in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund as a big success.

About 300 people packed the Lord Hill Hotel, in Shrewsbury, for the fundraising gig which was also streamed live online by Shropshire internet broadcaster County Channel TV.

Channel co-founder Geoff Ward said bands on the bill included indie outfit Fight the Bear, headliners The Clocktower and Ellesmere trio Not Completely Blonde.

He said: "It went really well and the music went down a storm. We had Not Completely Blonde playing live in a caravan and they blew everyone away."

He added: "The aim is to raise £25,000 for the Lingen Davies appeal. The idea is to give the appeal a fighting fund so it's in a position to perhaps buy some vital cancer care equipment if it needs to in the near future."

Radio Shropshire presenter Vicki Archer fronted the broadcast. The event, put together by unsigned acts promoter Unheard Shropshire, was supported by Wem-born comedy star Greg Davies.

The music was coupled with video clips filmed at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to explain how the cash will be spent to boost cancer care there.
