The 28 band members played for two hours after being booked by Shropshire Council and will be back tomorrow between 6pm and 8pm.

Musical director Steve Pritchard-Jones, who taught music at Belvidere School for 17 years before joining the band in April, said the band had been rebranded to spread its appeal.

Mr Pritchard-Jones, 45, said: "It has given us a bigger identity and promotes our roots to the county town more so the change has been great for us.

"We had lots of really nice comments from people on Saturday and it helps us spread the message about our new-look group as well as bringing some Christmas music to the town."

The group, which rehearses each Tuesday at the County Showground, is raising money for its upkeep during its performances and also donates money to charity throughout the year.

Mr Pritchard-Jones said: "We also have a training band so if anybody fancies playing they should come along. We have members from 12 to 70-years-old and are thriving."
