Fans had snapped up 1,250 tickets for the concert at The Buttermarket on Saturday by 2pm yesterday.

The tickets had been advertised for sale from 8am. A small final allocation of tickets was due to go on sale at 8pm last night. The singer is currently top of the charts with his single Impossible,

He performed at the venue less than two weeks ago in front of a sell-out crowd.

Martin Monahan, owner of The Buttermarket, said the response to Arthur's second county appearance had been 'crazy'.

He said: "When we announced it on Facebook and Twitter it went absolutely crazy, and by the end of the night I don't think many people in Shropshire didn't know about it.

"We really thought there would be no possibility of him returning until after the X Factor arena tour in March.

"Then I received a telephone call saying James would love to come back to The Buttermarket and is available this coming Saturday. Needless to say I had no hesitation in saying yes."

X Factor fever continues to sweep Shropshire with boyband Union J also set to return to The Buttermarket on Friday night.

The group needed a police escort after thousands of screaming fans attended their previous gig at the venue on December 27.

Meanwhile on Saturday, just under 1,000 revellers attended a performance by teen singer Ella Henderson at The Buttermarket.

And two more X Factor groups will take to the stage for a double bill gig featuring boyband District 3 and urban group MK1 on January 19.

Mr Monahan said: "I'm proud of what has been achieved at The Buttermarket for James to chose our venue out of all those in the UK. He wanted to come back to Shrewsbury."
