The pop group, who came fourth in this year's ITV talent show, returned to The Buttermarket nightclub in Shrewsbury last night and were greeted by a deafening roar from hundreds of teenage fans.

A big crowd turned out to see Union J at The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury

Some of the crowd had been queuing outside the club on Howard Street from 10am yesterday in order to get the best seats in the house.

The foursome, JJ, Josh, George and Jaymi, performed a 15-minute set including songs they covered during the X Factor.

Buttermarket owner Martin Monahan said: "The gig was another sell-out and we had fans queuing from 10am. You needed your ear plugs!"

Vickie Clayton, from Clee Hill, near Ludlow, took her nine-year-old daughter Georgia along for the gig. Georgia said: "I'm a big Union J fan and it was really amazing."

Also in the crowd were Carys Crowther, nine, Laurissa Wishart, nine, and Kai Davies, eight, who all attend Oxon Primary School in Shrewsbury. Carys said: "We all love Union J and it was brilliant."

X Factor fever will continue in Shropshire tonight as the X Factor winner James Arthur performs in front of a sell-out crowd at The Buttermarket less than two weeks after his first appearance in the county. The singer will take to the stage at 9pm.
