The Ivor Novello and Grammy award-winning artist performed at Theatre Severn in Frankwell on Saturday night – despite suffering from flu-like symptoms.

The Scottish singer's performance in Shropshire came on the back on a US tour in January.

The solo acoustic gig was watched by hundreds of fans in the theatre's main auditorium.

Midge Ure enjoyed success in the 1970s and 1980s in bands such as Slik, Thin Lizzy, The Rich Kids, Visage, and most notably as frontman of Ultravox.

He also co-wrote the charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? and helped to organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof.

The singer acts as a trustee for the charity, and serves as ambassador for Save the Children.

One fan took to social networking site Twitter to praise the singer's performance in Shropshire.

She said: "Excellent, just excellent... great voice and guitar skills, even though he was at death's door with man-flu."
