Beyoncé to headline V Festival 2013

Superstar Beyonce will headline this summer's V Festival, delighted organisers have announced – as it emerged three million fans in just two hours applied for tickets to the star's UK concerts.

The former Destiny's Child singer, now a multi-millionaire solo star, will perform at Weston Park on the Shropshire border in August and will top the bill alongside US rockers Kings Of Leon.

Organisers say the singer, who last week added three dates to her UK tour after unprecedented demand, will perform at V in August in her only European festival appearance this year.

Securing the singer - famous for hits such as Crazy In Love and Single Ladies - is a coup for organisers after the star's headline arena UK tour sold out within minutes of tickets going on sale last week.

The US singer will play a run of shows in Birmingham, London and Manchester beginning in April.

General tickets for her Mrs Carter UK tour were released at 9.30am on Saturday and completely sold out by 9.42am, leaving scores of fans, including Olympic medal-winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington, disappointed. It begins its British leg in Birmingham on April 26.

This year's V Festival will take place at Weston Park near Shifnal on August 17 and 18, with tickets expected to sell out well in advance of the weekend.

Last year's event saw 90,000 fans fill the grounds of Weston Park to listen to more than 100 acts perform.

And organisers say this year's festival is expected to draw similar numbers.

Festival director Simon Moran said: "Brace yourselves for the high priestess of pop, Beyonce, who will be bringing her high octane performance and outstanding voice to headline V Festival's Virgin Media stage. This will be her one and only European festival appearance this year.

"We have a reputation for bringing fans the best world class acts and breakthrough artists, 2013 is set to be another sensational year."

Tickets for the festival are due to go on sale on Friday.
