The street drumming group called Urban Pulse will be for 10 to 19-year-olds of all abilities and disabilities.

It will see young people from all backgrounds getting involved with music.

A number have already signed up to be part of the group.

It will be launched at the new youth centre, called The Centre, which has recently been opened in Oak Street, on Saturday at noon.

Mike Lade, spokesman, said: "Urban Pulse is what's known as a street or stomp band who use recycled buckets, tubs and even dustbins as percussion instruments to produce a unique style of drumming."

People wanting to take part do not need to have any experience or skills as they will be taught by project co-ordinator and drum teacher Jay Moore, of Fusion Arts Oswestry.

Mr Moore said: "We are after keen young people to get involved in Urban Pulse and be part of this exciting project."

It is hoped that the music sessions will be free of charge.

The Borderland Rotary Club has awarded cash to the project to pay for the joining fees.

Mr Moore said: "We are very grateful to Borderland Rotary Club for their very welcome donation.

"This money will help these young people to start learning how to make music from everyday objects and have fun doing it in a big group.

"The first session will be on March 16 and we have got a good numbers signed up already."

He said he would like to see a lot of youngsters from the town join in with the new group.

"Hopefully the children will get to make a chunk of new friends," Mr Moore said.

Mr Moore is a professional drum teacher and one of the founders of Fusion Arts Oswestry.

He hopes the freestyle nature of the band and the physical exercise required will inspire youngsters.

Any young people who want to take part are invited to go along to the launch of the band.
