Chart sensations JLS delighted hundreds of screaming fans with their antics during their sell out gig in Shropshire.

The chart-toppers performed an hour-long DJ set at Shrewsbury's Buttermarket nightclub on Saturday night.

The crowd of nearly 1,000 went wild for the boy band, with some fans queuing from 5am to ensure their front of stage places.

JLS star Marvin Humes took to the decks during the one-hour DJ set while fellow band members Aston Merrygold, Oritsé Williams and J.B Gill danced, rapped and sang in front of the screaming crowd.

The mixed crowd of children, mums and dads, as well as teenage fans erupted with ear-splitting screams when the boys arrived on stage.

The band rapped and sang but mostly strutted about the stage backed by a stream of big dance tunes.

Pink iPads, Pods and Phones were just some of the paraphernalia handed up the boys, who dotingly signed for much of their set. And their dedication to their fans was ever present as the quartet texted and tweeted and even called from mobiles handed to them on stage.

Aston even stripped off to a sleeveless vest and proceeded to do back flips on the stage which proved all too much for one teenage-girl who had to be carried over the barriers to safety after fainting.

One of the organisers, Grant Lees, said: "It's really important to us that the kids are safe and have a great time, for some this is their first gig and we are making lifelong memories here for these guys. We want it to be special."

The evening had a family atmosphere with dedicated areas for children at the front of the stage and balcony to ensure people could watch the performance safely.

Club owner Martin Monohan said: "It was great to see people of all ages and JLS really interacted with the crowd.

"They were really delighted to be there and were given a fantastic welcome on their first visit to Shrewsbury."

The show raised more than £10,000 for Hope House Children's Hospice and the JLS Foundation, with generous benefactor Dan Leonard stumping up a personal donation of half the overall total.

The rest of the cash for raised through ebay auctions offering the chance to meet the band, and a raffle on the night – which also gave around 40 lucky fans the opportunity to meet their idols on the night.

JLS rose to fame after claiming the runners up spot on the X Factor five years ago. The band have sold more than 10 million records worldwide.
