Lesley Garrett performed in front of a packed audience at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn last night.

She was joined by the European Union Chamber Orchestra for an evening of arias and classical favourites. They included Handel's Let the Bright Seraphim, Elgar's Serenade for Strings and Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate. The audience was also able to enjoy Barber's Adagio for Strings, Handel's Lascia Ch'io Pianga and Haydn's Symphony No.49 La Passione.

The singer has starred in musicals Carousel and The Sound of Music.

She has also appeared on television in Strictly Come Dancing, Loose Women and Who Do You Think You Are?

It is not the first time she has performed in the county.

In 2011 she took to the stage at the Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton in front of a sell-out audience.

The star was celebrating 30 years in showbusiness with a national tour and she included the town on her list of venues.
