The name of the high-profile act is likely to be revealed in the next week or so and tickets will go on sale this month,

The gig on September 7, in Telford's town park arena, will round off two weekends of Telford & Wrekin Council's T-Party festival.

The previous weekend, from August 30 to September 1, the arena will host a family weekend with a marquee for a top-name comedy act, a theatre performance and music and dancing.

The arena will also have a huge range of free activities. The weekend will be capped off by a more relaxed Sunday 'picnic in the park' featuring a Great British Bake Off-style competition complete with a celebrity judge.

Councillor Bill McClements, cabinet member with responsibility for tourism, said: "T-Party promises to be a great event and will really help put Telford further on the map as a place with exciting events that will bring more people here.

"We believe that T-Party can go from strength to strength and become a regular slot in people's calendar." The day-long music event on September 7 will also feature an exciting supporting line-up including up-and-coming bands.

Over the two weekends, the council believes that T-Party will attract about 20,000 people. For ticketed events, there will a discounted entry fee for Telford loyalty card holders.

The council will be looking to build on this year's event to make T-Party another major draw for visitors to Telford. It will link closely to the neighbouring £250m Southwater development – much of which is due to open early next year.
