McFly have agreed to play Telford on Saturday, September 7

The concert, dubbed T-Party in the Park, will be the largest outdoor concert the town has ever seen.

The band, which has sold 10 million albums worldwide and had a string of number one hits, will play the park's arena on Saturday, September 7.

The four band members are currently on a tour to celebrate their 10th anniversary as a group, and will be the first major act to perform a live outdoor gig in the park. Organisers at Telford & Wrekin Council said they expect thousands of people to snap up tickets for the event, part of the town's first major summer festival.

They hope it will become an annual fixture in the town.

A family fun day will also be held at the park the weekend before.

Councillor Kuldip Sahota, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "I am absolutely delighted that we have been able to attract an internationally established act like McFly for the first ever T-Party Festival.

"To my mind, this puts down a marker for the T-Party for future years and will well and truly put Telford and Wrekin on the map.

"We have a wonderful venue in the Town Park Arena and I feel the programme of entertainment we are putting together for T-Party is one that will really excite local residents and visitors as well.

"We will be making more announcements in the coming weeks about what else will feature as part of the entertainment for T-Party and we expect tickets to sell very quickly."

McFly will play a 75-minute set with support acts on stage from late afternoon into the night.

Tickets will be £35 for adults, £30 for children aged 11-16, £10 for six to 10-year-olds and free for under fives.

Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, May 28, at 10am through www.tparty.co.uk or by calling (01952) 382382. People can also call in person at the box office at Oakengates Theatre and Telford Ice Rink.
