Hundreds of people poured onto the Oswestry Showground yesterday, with many more arriving today in preparation for the 48 hours of live music, with headline acts including JLS, The Enemy, and Pigeon Detectives.

Last night a DJ party got Osfest off to a flying start. Almost 5,000 tickets have been sold for this year's event.

Putting up a six berth tent with some difficulty were Sarah Breeze, 16, from Shrewsbury and her friend Tara Hall, 16, who lives less than a mile away from the showground at Park Hall.

Sarah said: "I came last year but didnt camp over. But I think I missed a lot of the fun by not camping so this year I am determined to stop over."

Jessica Evans and Amy Jones, 18, both from Fron near Chirk, found life easier with a pop-up tent.

One of the larger groups to set up their own camp was a 20 strong bunch of friends from Shrewsbury. One of the group, Ellie Ashley, 17, said dress code was very important at festivals.

"It's shorts, wellies – that have to be really colourful – and fake tan."

One of the biggest cheers of the weekend so far was for the home-grown band, Stayawake.

The pupils and past pupils of the Marches School won the Battle of the Bands competition run by Osfest .

Annie Rogers, 15, from Pant, said: "The band was fantastic, and there were loads of people there to support the lads. It was brilliant."

"We are all looking forward to seeing Lucy Spraggan on Sunday. Its a great atmosphere, its boiling hot, we are all having a great time."
