The Save The Ironworks campaign was launched at a meeting on Wednesday by Steve and Roslynn Gore, who own the Oswestry venue.

Mr Gore said: "We seem to have built up quite a level of interest. We've had a lot of people come in to offer their support. By the time we've got some fundraising events running as well it's all looking very positive."

At the start of the month Mr Gore was told by his bank that The Ironworks in Church Street will be sold by auction on September 12 unless he can raise £140,000.

The campaign to save the venue was launched a few days later with a 'buy a brick' scheme, as supporters will be able to sponsor a brick of the upstairs performance space for £20.

Mr Gore said he was really pleased by the support that he has received, adding: "If things keep going like this then the future looks good for The Ironworks."

Anyone who wants to buy a brick can visit www.the-ironworks.co.uk or get a pledge form from the venue.
