Collabro have featured on two sell-out tours and are back on the road with their third. The world’s number one musical theatre group will headline Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on Thursday.

The show almost didn’t happen – after singer Michael Auger caught caught up in Hurricane Irma on St Martin. After his near-miss, the quartet decided to hand over profits from their single, Lighthouse, to Save The Children.

Michael says: “Obviously I witnessed the devastation of Hurricane Irma first-hand. I was on holiday in St Martin and was supposed to come home on Monday and the hurricane was due on the Wednesday. I was unable to make my scheduled flight and I ended up having to stay.

“It was a one-in-a-lifetime experience that I wouldn’t wish upon anybody. I’m one of the lucky ones who’ve been able to have the support from home. I got evacuated by US military aircraft to Puerto Rico thethe Collabro boys arranged a flight back via Madrid to London.

“I got home safely and remember thinking of all the people – the locals – who were trying to help me get food and water. They were telling me stories that this was the worst devastation they’d ever seen, the hurricane, and how they were going to be rebuilding their homes for a year or more. It opened mine, and the others boys’ eyes, to what actually goes on in those counties.”

The incident changed Michael’s perception and made him determined to play a part.

“We’re so lucky to be here and not prone to natural disasters. We’ve teamed up with Save The Children’s emergency fund, who give money to children and families across all natural disasters. Every single penny from the new single is going to go to that charity. We’re covering the up sale because that’s the way we feel we can help. Music is what we do and Lighthouse is a song that means a lot to us. It’s our first ever-original song and this is our first single off the album. It’s nice to be doing something to raise awareness for the people who are.”
