Jay Silva to headline music festival for Telford’s 50th anniversary
Students have organised a one-day music festival that will take place this Saturday to celebrate Telford’s 50th anniversary.
Manny Singh Uppal, one of the student organisers from Telford College, said the festival is “organised by young people, for young people”.
“We wanted to do our bit to help mark the town’s 50th anniversary celebrations,” said Uppal. “Hopefully we can turn this into an annual event.”
RnB musician Jay Silva will be headlining the event, performing alongside a number of local acts.
The organisers said they were “delighted” to have secured Jay Silva as the festival headliner. A survey of students had found that he was the most popular choice.
Telford & Wrekin Council have helped fund the music festival by awarding the organisers a Telford Pride @ 50 Celebration grant. Money raised by the event will be donated to The Georgia Williams Trust and Severn Hospice.
Councillor Stephen Reynolds, who is mayor of Telford & Wrekin and an ambassador for Severn Hospice, visited the Telford College campus to meet the young organisers. He said: “I’m really pleased that the students are supporting Severn Hospice and I’ll be delighted to open the event on the day.”
The event will run from 4.30pm until 9pm at Telford College’s Haybridge campus on May 5. The minimum age for entry is 14 and tickets are on sale now on skiddle.com
