Dan Owen, from Shrewsbury, will launch his debut album this weekend

Dan Owen, born and bred in Shrewsbury, recorded Stay Awake With Me in London in the midst of selling out gigs across the UK and Europe, and will celebrate the milestone release on Friday with performances at the Montgomery Waters Meadow as well as the town’s HMV branch.

His grandfather, Derek Owen, played 14 times for Shrewsbury in the 1950s, scoring three goals, and Dan said he is looking forward to building up a relationship with his local football club.

Dan said: “I wanted to do something together because I went to the Wembley match and seeing all the fans there was great, so I just thought I’d come and play some songs

“I played around the town for years and I love Shrewsbury as a town, even though I have to live in London now, but Shrewsbury is still home, so it’s nice to be involved with this.”

“I kind of play everything from a few slow ones to the more stomping blues stuff as well, but I will keep it all upbeat when I play here with some rock ‘n roll and stuff.

“I always get interested in the reactions from different crowds, so I play loads of music festivals, loads of support gigs for people and then my own gigs, but I’ve never played a football club before, so I don’t know how it’s going to go down.

“But, judging from that Wembley match, and other games I’ve been to, people are just hyped up and ready for a good time, so hopefully we can give them that.”

Dan will perform in the Town fanzone from 1.45pm, before the League One game against Blackpool.
