The 2018 BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year Xhosa Cole will bring his quartet to Shrewsbury’s The Hive on January 18 for a special concert.

The saxophonist, who is friends with Birmingham-born punk star Toyah Wilcox, sees his quartet completed by Jay Phelps on trumpet, bassist James Owston and drummer Jim Bashford.

A spokesman for the quarted said: “They will be playing contemporary takes on standards and originals with passion and spontaneity inspired by jazz greats such as Sonny Rollins & Clifford Brown.”

The Hive can be found on Belmont in the town. Tickets cost £16 or £8 for under-22s and can be purchased via The Hive’s website www.hiveonline.org.uk or by calling 01743 234970 or dropping into Pengwern Books on Fish Street, telephone number 01743 232236.
