Market Drayton youngsters putting on Wizard show

The youngest members of Market Drayton's amateur dramatics society will put on a faithful production of the Wizard of Oz in the February half term.

Market Drayton Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society are hard at work rehearsing for their three performances of the Wizard of Oz, produced by the society's Junior Theatre Workshop (JTW) counterparts.

The show will be performed in its full length 1939 film version as performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company and there will be three chances to catch it, on the evenings of February 22 and 23 and the afternoon of Saturday, February 25.

The evening showings will begin at the Festival Drayton Centre at 7.30pm and the Saturday show will start at 2.30pm. Tickets are available from the centre's box office on 01630 654444.

Rehearsals began before Christmas for the beloved story of Dorothy, the yellow brick road and the munchkins.

The JTW contingent of the society, aged between eight and 15, take part in the senior pantomimes and other productions where appropriate, as well as staging their own shows. Their recent productions include Bugsy Malone, Splash, Olivia and Seussical Jr.
