The county’s 200 best food, drink and craft producers were joined by celebrity chefs, Michelin-star holders and the best local cooks.

There were free hands-on cookery classes, plenty of free activities for children, the chance to win a number of competitions and opportunities to get up close and personal with producers.

And, after last week's heatwave, the rain stayed away and the sun creeped out throughout the day to keep the punters happy.

The festival was recently named the second best in the UK in a national survey and event co-ordinator Beth Heath said beforehand she was hoping to stage the best food festival the county has ever seen. Up to 25,000 people were expected over the weekend.

The festival is raising money for charity with Mercedes Benz sponsoring the creation of a community garden, Self Help Africa generating cash for people in developing nations and the Harry Johnson Trust will also collect donations.

The event opens again on Sunday from 10am. Tickets cost £2 for children, £7 for adults and £15 for families.
