Sir Michael Parkinson to bring new show to Shrewsbury
Sir Michael Parkinson is coming to Shrewsbury later this year.
The English broadcaster, journalist and author will be in conversation with his son Mike as the pair explore Michael's rise from a pit village in Yorkshire to the height of his career.
Michael began his rise to fame in Yorkshire writing for local newspapers before shifting to television work in the 1960s. From 1969 he presented Granada Television's late-night review programme Cinema, before working on his eponymous BBC series Parkinson 1971.
Parkinson ran until 2007 and saw Michael interview the likes of Michael Caine, Muhammad Ali, David Bowie, Robin Williams, Cilla Black, Orson Welles, Princess Anne, Helen Mirren and many more.
Michael returned to hosting television in November 2012 with his new show Parkinson: Masterclass.
He has received an array of honours and awards including an honorary doctorate from the University of Lincoln, being made Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Prince Charles for services to broadcasting, and becoming a Knight Batchelor in the 2008 New Year's Honours list.
Michael Parkinson comes to Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn on September 9.
