Rescue centre holds open day

Cuan Wildlife, based at The Signals, Stretton Road, Much Wenlock, needs to raise about £180,000 a year to cover its outgoings, and this is one of the biggest events in its calendar.

Rescued baby hedgehogs, owls, ducklings and foxes were on show to the families that visited.

There was also a dog show, bouncy castle, face painting and stalls.

Anna Nicholas, manager, said it was a "real community event".

She said: "It's gone absolutely amazingly, it's been our biggest event yet.

"The dog show was excellent, we had lots of dogs in lots of categories and the most visitors we have ever had.

"It's been absolutely remarkable.

"The stallholders have all said how busy it has been for them, it will make such a difference for the rescue centre.

"We usually raise between £5,000 and £6,000 at the open day but it's been so busy this year I think it will be more than £6,000.

"Our outgoings each year are £180,000 so having the open day does make such a huge difference, as all our money comes from donations.

"We had lots of different stalls, charity and retail and things for children to do as well as first responders who came and engaged with the community.

"It was a real community day for all the family."

The centre will be holding a midsummer ball on July 28, a classic car and craft fair on August 19, the centre will host Whalebone in Concert on August 18 and hold a Soap Box Derby on September 9.
