Nerdy Coffee Co, on Mardol, broke the hearts of hundreds when the last owners announced its closure in May this year.

The owners of the boardgame cafe blamed the current economic climate and doubling energy bills making it "impossible" to survive.

Within days, the company was flooded with offers of support from their passionate community, with customers praising the "incredible" staff and "safe space" environment.

Not wanting to see the doors close to the community forever, a local investor and a former staff member stepped in.

The store's newest director, Katie Petrovic, 34, had become a familiar face behind the counter at the coffee shop before the announcement and described the last few months as an "emotional rollercoaster".

"I've absolutely loved the place since day one four years ago - it's really changed our lives," she said.
