Taking a look at the new sculpture is Keith Whiddon from The March of the Elephants project

The sculpture, called Entwined Elephants, has been installed on a building in the town and it was designed and made by artist Chris Groombridge.

He said it took two weeks to sculpt the artwork in clay, then a week to mould and cast in terracotta Jesmonite.

Chris said: “The elephants started as a part of a series of investigative pieces exploring human or animal forms as a ‘landscape’.

“An elephant’s body and skin are perfect for this, but I think the appeal of two entwined elephants is also about something that really engages with people – the way a mother cares for, and interacts with her child. Any viewer can relate to this.

Keith Whiddon, from The March of the Elephants project, said: “In August 2020 the project, through the town council, won a grant of £3,500 from the Covid-19 Small Market Towns Marches Investment Fund for key Shropshire market towns to support initiatives aimed at enabling safe reopening, social distancing, driving footfall and re-invigorating the town economy.

"The entwined elephants’ heads is the latest work to be unveiled in town and so far it’s been very well received.”
