V Festival 2017: Top acts not to miss

With stars such as Pink and Jay Z set to entertain at V Festival, we take a look at the top acts not to miss at the two-day Weston Park event.

Friday:

Chase and Status DJ set

British electronic group Chase and Status will perform on the BBC Radio 1 Stage on Friday evening.

The London act, which formed back in 2003, is best known for songs including Blind Faith, Flashing Lights, Duppy Man and Time.

Annie Mac

Irish DJ and TV presenter Annie Mac will also play the Radio 1 Stage on the Friday evening.

The Radio 1 DJ is a regular at V Festival, having entertained crowds at the Weston Park festival in 2015 and 2016.

Her partner Toddla T will be playing the festival the following day.

Saturday:

Jay Z

Rap royalty Jay Z will headline the festival’s main stage on Saturday night.

He last performed in the Midlands when he played Birmingham’s Barlaycard Arena in October 2013.

The star, whose real name is Shawn Carter, is best known for hits including Empire State Of Mind, 99 Problems, Big Pimpin’, Dirt Off Your Shoulder and Encore.

He is also famed for being married to Beyoncé and teaming up with rockers Linkin Park on collaboration album Collision Course.

Ellie Goulding

English singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding will make a return to performing live at this year’s V Festival, despite having vowed to take a break from the industry last year. Ellie’s V Festival show will be her penultimate gig on a 11-date European tour.

The 30-year-old Hereford star is best known for hits Love Me Like You Do, Burn, Anything Could Happen and Starry Eyed.

Stormzy

MOBO Award-winning grime and hip hop artist Stormzy returns to V Festival this year after wowing crowds at last year’s event.

The Croydon-based rapper won Best Grime Act at the 2014 and 2015 MOBO Awards and named an artist to look out for in the BBC’s Sound of 2015 list.

The 23 year old is best known for songs such as Shut Up and Big For Your Boots.

Emeli Sandé

Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé will entertain crowds from the main stage on Saturday afternoon.

The 30-year-old star, who won the Brit Awards’ Critics Choice Award in 2012, has had two number one singles on songs she has collaborated with Professor Green and Labrinth.

Solo songs she is best known for include Next To Me and Breathing Underwater.

Dizzee Rascal

Rap icon Dizzee Rascal will entertain crowds at Weston Park this Saturday.

The genre-busting artist, who spans garage, hip hop, grime and RnB, has won numerous accolades since he started out in 2000, including the Mercury Prize back in 2003 and the Brit Award for British Male Solo Artist in 2010.

He is best known for songs including Dance Wiv Me, Bonkers, Dirtee Disco, Just A Rascal, Fix Up Look Sharp and Bassline Junkie.

The Wailers

Reggae legends The Wailers will deliver the sounds of Jamaica to Staffordshire this summer, bringing with them the many beloved songs of Bob Marley.

Expect all the hits, including Three Little Birds, Is This Love, Buffalo Soldier, One Love, Redemption Song, Could You Be Loved, Stir It Up and I Shot The Sheriff.

Example and DJ Wire

English rapper Example will be joined by DJ Wire for a set in the Dance Arena on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Fulham star is best known for songs such as Changed The Way You Kiss Me, Last Ones Standing and Won’t Go Quietly.

Sunday:

Pink

US singer-songwriter Pink will headline the main stage on Sunday evening. Her V Festival appearances at Weston Park and Chelmsford are her only UK shows.

The star, who began her solo career back in 2000, is best known for songs such as So What, Who Knew, Trouble, Family Portrait, Just Like A Pill, Get The Party Started and Don’t Let Me Get Me.

The last time the star performed in the UK was back in 2013 on her The Truth About Love tour.

Craig David

Southampton singer, songwriter, rapper and record producer Craig David will transport fans back to the late 90s and early noughties when he plays the main stage on Sunday.

Expect all the hits including 7 Days, Walking Away, Fill Me In, Rewind, What’s Your Flava and Hidden Agenda, plus some new material.

Jess Glynne

Hampstead singer-songwriter Jess Glynne will get crowds moving when she plays the main stage on Sunday.

The star rose to fame with Clean Bandit’s Rather Be in 2014, for which she won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

She has since released a number of solo songs, including Hold My Hand, Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself and Take Me Home.

The star also performed at V Festival last year.

Madness

Camden ska legends Madness will get the crowd moving when they play the main stage on Sunday.

The band, which formed back in 1976, is best known for hits such as Our House, It Must Be Love, Baggy Trousers and House Of Fun.

Busted

More than a decade after the double-Brit-winning pop-rock trio said goodbye to the music industry, James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson are back together - and entertaining fans with music new and old.

The Essex band is best known for songs such as Year 3000, What I Go To School For and Air Hostess.

They will play the main stage on Sunday.

Rudimental

English drum and bass band Rudimental will entertain fans when they headline the second stage on Sunday.

The Hackney-based act, which was founded in 2010, is famed for songs such as

Feel The Love, Waiting All Night and Lay It All On Me.

Sean Paul

Jamaican reggae and rap star Sean Paul will bring the sounds of the Caribbean to Weston Park when he plays the second stage on Sunday.

The Kingston star is best known for songs such as Get Busy, Temperature, We Be Burnin’, Like Glue and Gimme The Light.

Sigala DJ set

Dance fans will be treated to a set by Norwich-based DJ Sigala on Sunday at the JBL Dance Arena.

He is best known for his 2015 debut single Easy Love, which samples ABC by the Jackson 5. Other songs he is known for include Sweet Lovin’, Give Me Your Love and Say You Do.
