The Telford Ice Skating Club took part in the Skate Southern Club International competition late last month.

Youngsters donned the ice as five club members finished on the podium in their respected categories.

Among those who finished first were 10-year-old Alex Potticary, who came first out of five in the level one men's group and Darcey Gordon, 9, who placed first out of 25 in the level one ladies age 10 and under field.

Arin Yorke, 10 – who was taking part in his first open competition – came second place in the beginner mens category of 11, Hannah Taylor, 13 was second out of 16 in the level three ladies age 12 and under and Mia McMahon, 15, placed second out of 20 in the basic novice A ladies aged 14 and over group.

The competition took place over September 25, 26 and 27.

Coach Jason Bowman, 29, from Telford, said: "We normally go to quite a lot of completions and we're in Sheffield at the moment. We do about ten to twelve competitions a year.

"They split the different kids by their level which goes from level one to level ten. My skaters last week were at different levels.

"I took five kids with me and was really proud of them. It doesn't happen very often that all your skaters get on the podium. It's a different achievement, normally you get one or two.

"They all skate five to six times a week and it's a big commitment so its good to see hard work pay off.

"We want to encourage everyone to come skating and join the Telford Ice Skating Club."

Arin and Alex competed in another competition on Tuesday where they both finished first.

Four members of the club are competing in total.
