But Sue Phelan and her daughter Michelle Talbot, better known as Intrigue, went on to win Telford’s Got Talent.

The contest was held to showcase the best of borough talent to mark Telford's golden anniversary.

Michelle, 42, who teaches at Bridgnorth's St Mary's Bluecoat CE School, says: "As I've lived in Telford all my life, I thought it was important to support Telford's Got Talent 2018. I think there are many talented people in Telford and it was a great opportunity to enable them to showcase their talents.

"It was also a fantastic opportunity to sing alongside my mom again, after so many years, and to perform in front of an incredible audience at our local theatre.

"Never in a million years, did I expect that we would win. There were some brilliant acts and it was an absolute privilege, to be among such talented people. Without a doubt, when our name was called out as the overall winners, it was one of the happiest moments of my life and one I will never forget.

"When the judges and the entire audience, gave us a standing ovation, it was a really emotional moment. I was overwhelmed and am so grateful for all the support given to us. To see the love and pride in my children's eyes was awesome. Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you to the Dennis-Miller Production Team, for giving us such an amazing opportunity."

The duo brought the house down with their rendition of Run at The Place, in Oakengates, to scoop the £500 cash prize, a trophy and opportunities to perform at several community shows including Carnival of the Giants and Telford's Christmas light switch on.

Teaching assistant Sue, 62, who lives in Muxton, says: “We are absolutely over the moon,” she said. “We can’t quite believe it. We’ve been singing for a while and this is the first official recognition we’ve had.

“It was one of those crazy ideas. You think maybe you can do it – you stand as much chance as anyone else.

“I had to talk Michelle into it, but we got there and proved ourselves," Sue adds.

The competition was the brainchild of the town's Dennis-Miller family and the judges were Googlebox star Sandra Martin, Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Shaun Davies, entertainer Lynton Mclean and Hayley Fellows.
