Residents of Nevil Road held a 'get to know your neighbours' style event.

According to organisers, the street has welcomed many new residents in recent years.

The party, which was free to attend, aimed to bring the whole community together, in order for people to get to know each other better while having fun.

Brenda Bellamy, who helped organise the event and has lived on Nevil Road for 33 years, said: "It's a lovely street, very quiet and safe and the neighbours are all very friendly and welcoming.

"The event was free for everyone who wished to attend, we just wanted people to get involved and enjoy themselves for a few hours.

"One resident, Sarah, put leaflets through everyone's doors suggesting we hold a street party.

"She mentioned that she'd like to get to know everyone a bit better. This was around four months ago and the idea just grew from there really.

"It's amazing, the idea has really taken off. Because everyone is so busy with work and various other things, no-one has time to say hello anymore."

Residents both young and old enjoyed an afternoon of activities including a barbecue, face painting, hair braiding and a children's treasure hunt.

The local ice cream van even made a special trip to the street, especially for the occasion.
