RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio to appear at Birmingham Town Hall

The star will headline Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on Monday in Blame It On Bianca Del Rio. She promises to be more tongue-lashingly hilarious than ever.

She says: “I hope you’re ready for some filthy, nasty, hateful humour because I’m coming to Birmingham with a new comedy show.”

Bianca has been called the ‘Joan Rivers of the drag world’ (New York Times) in her fiercely funny show.

The American drag queen, comedian, actor and costume designer won the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Bianca is actually 43-year-old New Orleans performer Roy R Haylock, who has worked primarily as a costume designer. He came to prominence at an early age, winning an award at the age of 17 and making costumes for the New Orleans opera.

He started to play as a drag artist in 1996 but moved to New York following Hurricane Katrina.

Since winning RuPaul’s Drag Race, Bianca has released a feature-length film, Hurricane Bianca, featured in two comedy specials, three comedy tours and developed a line of makeup removers.

Her latest enterprise is the upcoming sequel to her first film, Hurricane Bianca: From Russia With Hate.

The comedy queen is also preparing to release her first ever book, Blame It On Bianca Del Rio: The Expert on Nothing with an Opinion on Everything.

She says her new movie had been great fun: “Oh, well, it had been quite some time. I think it had been almost two years since we filmed the other one.

“I had been travelling kind of extensively with my solo shows, so it was nice to get a chunk of time where I could be in one city.

“So we spent the month in New York, and it was a treat because everybody agreed to come back again. Of course, Rachel Dratch being a huge factor in this, it was quite the treat to get her the first time and an absolute miracle to get her the second time.

“So to get back, it was like we literally had a drink and we were back on track again. It was a lot of fun.

“The setup was a little bit easier this time, because we were filming in New York in October, which made for a much more pleasant experience than Texas in July, with the heat and a bunch of drag queens. So it was far more comfortable for me, and we were in New York at the centre of everything. We ended up getting a lot of great cameos from people that were in the area.”
