Budding singers from the Shropshire border are being offered the chance to perform on the same stage as the likes of Katherine Jenkins and Nigel Kennedy at this year's Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

A Llangollen Community Choir is to be formed, with the first 100 people to come forward making up the new group.

It will perform for the first time at the eisteddfod in July, organisers said today.

In preparation for this year's event, festival organisers teamed up with local businesses to form the community choir in a bid to forge a "new and harmonious link" between the festival and the surrounding communities.

The community choir will make its inaugural appearance on July 7 at the One World, One Stage Evening Concert and will play a major part in the festival where singer Jenkins and violinist Kennedy will also be taking centre stage.

Eisteddfod chief executive Mervyn Cousins said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for people in Llangollen to be directly involved in welcoming the festival performers from all over the world and to have the chance to sing on the unique Llangollen stage."

Interested singers should call (01978) 862000.
