Letter: I am delighted that our MP, Daniel Kawczynski, has taken notice of the chilly, depressing, customer unfriendly bus station in Shrewsbury.

Ideally I would like it relocated near to the market, which has sadly declined since the bus station's construction on the Smithfield.

Problems include poor information: those manning the booking desk never seem to have knowledge of breakdowns in bus services, so one is left wondering whether to hire a taxi or not.

There are also inconvenient routes (especially for pensioners who have no car). Since Arriva's reorganisation of timetables, those living in the Belle Vue area are unable to catch a bus home from the bus station, but have to lug their shopping uphill to St Mary's Square. (I personally, have ceased shopping for food, especially in the Riverside Precinct, and I suspect many others limit what they purchase in town.)

The St Mary's bus stops are woefully inadequate, especially in inclement weather, with small shelters and seating exposed to the elements on a narrow pavement.

When the queues are large, passing pedestrians have to walk on the road. The electronic timetable is unreadable due to poor lighting and the information is often inaccurate.

Arriva need to pull up their socks.
