Letter: Cyclists must take more care

Letter: Any road collision resulting in injury or death is a tragedy, so I extend my condolences to the families of those cyclists injured and killed on Shropshire roads this week.
While I am saddened by these deaths, I am not surprised. As a motorist in Telford who makes multiple daily trips on the Eastern Primary and other local roads, I am regularly horrified by the risks I see cyclists taking.
I would like to remind them that a 60mph dual carriageway is not the place for push bikes, particularly not when there is an extensive and maintained cycle network throughout the town.
I often see cyclists riding on roads immediately beside maintained cycle paths, riding without helmets or safety gear, having mobile phones clamped to their ears, one or even no hands on the handlebars and even riding on the Eastern Primary wearing headphones that entirely cover their ears.
Please can I remind all cyclists that safety should always come first, along with a healthy dose of common sense.
However careful motorists are, in an argument between a bicycle and a car, the car will always win.
