Letter: An open letter to the organisers of The Shrewsbury Flower Show:

Despite the awful weather it was pleasing to see the number of people who were determined to support this wonderful show. There were too many high points to mention and a great time was had by all.

But, for those of us using the members' facilities there was some disappointment, despite the newly designed marquee and enclosure.

Too much space was taken up for "corporate hospitality" leaving less space for the rest of us at peak times

The massive TV screen was intrusive, distracting and a blemish on the showground. The Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir had performed two numbers before the camera decided to show them to us; prior to that we had to watch adverts from the sponsors.

Each time something interesting happened in the arena we were treated to more adverts from the sponsors, members cursed that screen every time we lost images from the arena.

While I appreciate the advertising brought in valuable revenue, it did not go down well with those of us who had it thrust in our faces when we least wanted it.

We were also disappointed that the members' bar closed at 9.50pm on Friday night without warning, leaving many "dry". And on Saturday by 9.15pm. Only those with empty glasses could get served as there was no-one to wash up the dirty ones.

Certain beers and spirits also ran out, leaving members a little irate.
