Shropshire student and X Factor hopeful Katie Brisbourne today said she has made it through to the boot camp of the competition.

The 17-year-old, from Bayston Hill near Shrewsbury, watched Saturday's show with millions of other viewers after performing in front of the judges earlier this summer.

But despite not making Saturday's TV cut, the performing arts student at Shrewsbury College is remaining optimistic that her successful audition will be aired on this weekend's show.

She said: "It was so surreal being up on the stage in front of the judges, I couldn't believe it was really happening. It has been my dream to perform on X Factor and it was amazing to be there for my first ever audition."

"It was so scary, I didn't realise there would be such a big audience. There were more than 3,000 people there and it was a great atmosphere.

"When I sung my first song Simon couldn't believe it was my voice and they asked me to sing a second song. They gave me four 'yeses' and Cheryl Cole really liked me.

"My family were so supportive along with my grandad and two of my friends who also came along. It was just amazing."

Meanwhile, teenage singers wowed The X Factor judges in the latest round of auditions with bookies already installing them as hot favourites to take this year's crown.

Wolverhampton student Liam Payne's performance of Cry Me a River at the LG Arena in Birmingham had Simon Cowell and guest judge Natalie Imbruglia on their feet applauding.

The auditions, which were aired on Saturday night, also saw 16-year-old Cher Lloyd, from Worcestershire, described by judge Cheryl Cole as "my favourite audition so far".

Bookmaker William Hill made Liam, who was 16 when he auditioned, 8/1 second favourite, behind Gamu Nhengu, who is 7/1 after wowing the judges with her rendition of Walking On Sunshine in Glasgow. Cher has been made 12/1 third favourite.

The show also featured temper tantrums as contestants Abbey Johnston and Lisa Parker stormed off stage to a chorus of boos before they even get as far as singing at the audtion.

But eventually they came back and tried to wow the judges with their version of Shayne Ward's That's My Goal but it did not go down well and Abbey lashed out at Lisa before leaving the stage.
