Letter: Recently I had the misfortune to travel to Coton Hill at 5pm. Little did I realize what a total shambles I was running into.

The problem started in Frankwell when I joined the slow moving queue, the cause of which soon became apparent when I got to the traffic lights as I joined the Smithfield road.

The reason for such a hold-up was that all traffic from Barker Street was having to push into the left-hand lane, including all buses going into the bus station.

Many cars were staying in the right-hand lane until the last minute and then cutting across (an accident just waiting to happen). One large lorry got into the wrong lane and there was much blowing of horns, etc, when he started to move over.

The cause of all these problems, is a traffic island to stop free movement of all vehicles that for years have used this road without any real problems. I am not sure why the bus companies are putting up with this.

The persons responsible for the placing of this island and the expense for doing so must be called to account.
