The spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council claims "it has proved impossible to restore the toilets".

To our knowledge the toilets have been closed for many years and there has been no attempt at refurbishing them in recent times.

The claim by Telford & Wrekin that it has proved impossible to refurbish the toilets appears to be a PR claim rather than fact.

The building is generally sound and is ideal for refurbishment into a 21st century, vandal-resistant facility.

The site no doubt has issues regarding services, all of which would make the project expensive but far from impossible.

By far the biggest issue is maintaining the toilets once built and deflecting those who would break, destroy and make malfunction what has been provided.

Experience shows the only way that happens is a joint effort between the community, the provider, the operator and the police.

With a well thought-out management policy and zero tolerance for those who would damage the facility there is absolutely no reason why The Wrekin could not have the public toilet it rightly deserves, maintained to a high standard.

Yes. it will cost money. But surely it is a service that should be provided?

The article makes a mockery of Andrew Eade's recent remarks about the disgusting state of The Wrekin and litter when it also being used as an open air toilet due to the lack of a facility.

The council is using a PR article to deflect from what they should be doing: Providing a service.
