A Telford-based band has done a holiday camp double after winning major competitions at Pontin's and Butlins.

Jackfield Elcock Reisen Band has become the 2010 First Section Pontin's Champions, winning £2,500 and adding to the title of Butlins Champions 2010 which it won in January.

Kelly Hodges, of the band, said after the latest win, at Prestatyn: "Under the baton of Simon Platford, we were drawn to play seventh to perform Darrol Barry's Flamborough Seascapes and really caught the ear of the adjudicators who felt it was a clear winner on the day, describing our performance as 'outstanding'.

"At the conclusion of the results they asked to speak with the band's new principal cornet player, James Roberts, to thank him for what they considered to be some exceedingly good cornet playing, the best they had heard all day. It was a great start on his debut performance with the band.

"The adjudicators were full of praise for the way the band performed this challenging, sometimes dark piece. They said that the performance took them on a journey."

She added: "2010 is proving to be a good vintage for Jackfield Elcock Reisen Band, who have been in the winning frame at every contest we have attended this year, making this the most successful year in the band's history."
