Music fans across Shropshire were today snapping up tickets to the 2011 V Festival after organisers decided to release 10,000 for each site ahead of next year's VAT rise.

Ten thousand tickets for the two sites - Weston Park near Shifnal and Chelmsford - went on sale at noon and will remain up for grabs until noon tomorrow unless they sell out.

Fans who miss out will have to wait until tickets go on general sale on March 4.

Next year's event will take place on August 20 and 21 with more top acts expected to take to the stage.

Kara McCabe, a spokesman for V Festival, said: "The first hour went fantastically, as we expected, and there are still tickets available so snap them up before we run out.

"We're working hard on putting together what we think could be one of the most exciting line-ups of recent years so don't miss out on this great opportunity to secure tickets for 2011."

Would-be festival-goers are being urged to only buy tickets through approved outlets.

She added: "Packages will include V style luxury camping at Hylands Park and Weston Park and Big Green Coach ticket and coach travel.

"You are advised not to book tickets from any unauthorised outlet, auction website or ticket touts."
