Bosses at a Shrewsbury nightclub today issued an apology to clubbers after two big name acts due to appear over the Christmas period cancelled their gigs because of illness.

Former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Preston had been lined up to appear as one of the first big name acts at Onyx and Blu in Raven Meadows on December 10.

But he had to cancel on the day after becoming ill with food poisoning.

And clubbers were also left disappointed when one of the UK's biggest rap artists, Professor Green, had to call off a performance at the club on December 21 after coming down with flu.

Paul Cowen, from Onyx and Blu, today said both events would be rearranged for next year.

He said: "Preston had been sick with food poisoning and Professor Green was ill with flu.

"We apologise to customers for the inconvenience but there is very little we can do if the acts are ill.

"Everybody who bought advance tickets has been e-mailed and told they will be transferred to the new date or offered a full refund."

Mr Cowen said the Professor Green gig had been re-scheduled for Monday, February 21 while he said they would be in touch with Preston's management team in the New Year to arrange a new date for him to appear at the club.

The New Year's Eve Ball tomorrow night will run from 10pm until 4am.
