Letter: Ludlow pub ban policy makes no sense

This action, I guess, is to cut down the number of undesirables fighting, using abusive language, drugs, or underage drinking and damaging property.
I can see why they would want to bring in a rule like this, especially if I was a landlord who couldn't run my business correctly and efficiently.
I could rely on colleagues from other pubs to help me while they suffer because of my incompetence.
Licensed businesses are going through one of the worst times in their history with 50 pubs a week closing nationally and locally we can see trade going out of the town due to a couple of incompetent landlords.
Don't get me wrong I think people creating problems should be punished but any ban should be restricted to the pub in which they misbehaved.
Why don't all you landlords look at the list of the barred people and see how many have actually caused problems in your pubs. I bet you will find very few, with the majority coming from two or three in the town.
When I had a pub up north this scheme was brought in and the well run pubs soon realised it was the same pubs causing the problem and people never misbehaved in our pubs.
We pulled out of it and never had problems, but the pubs that had had problems continued to have them.
