Superstar singer Sir Elton John's big summer concert in Shropshire has been given the go-ahead by councillors despite last-minute worries over health and safety rules.

Fears were growing that the Rocket Man singer's concert could be refused amid concerns over parking, transport issues and pedestrian safety.

But Shropshire Council's central planning committee yesterday granted planning permission for the concert, which is expected to attract 17,000 revellers to Shrewsbury Town FC's Greenhous Meadow stadium on June 12.

Speaking at the committee meeting councillors said they were pleased with the outcome and hoped Sir Elton's show would pave the way for more big stars to come to town in future.
