Letter: Council's failure to help local firms
With times as difficult as they are at the moment you would think Shropshire Council would have taken advantage of the large crowds coming into the town for the flower show.
With times as difficult as they are at the moment you would think Shropshire Council would have taken advantage of the large crowds coming into the town for the flower show.
However, once again, the council failed to consider doing something positive for the businesses in the town centre.
It directed all pedestrian traffic approaching the town via the English Bridge and Abbey routes around the Town Walls, thus unhelpfully bypassing the Wyle Cop, High Street and town centre areas.
This shows the thoughtlessness of the council and contempt in which it and its members hold the businesses which are the lifeblood of the town.
Once again we see the council at its short-sighted worst, as we have done so previously with the rapid, large increases in car parking charges.
It appears that the councillors in their ivory towers and expensive hotels were content to do nothing for the traders of the town during the flower show.
